Built on
Reputation
Clan Contracting was founded in June 1982, when structural repair as a specialist discipline was still finding its feet. Over 44 years, the work has changed. The standards have not.

The Beginning
Clan Contracting was founded in June 1982, when structural repair as a specialist discipline was still finding its feet. Alan ran the business for three decades and left it with a reputation that still shapes how Clan operates today.
Built by people who know the work
Managing Director Damian Meyers and Operations Director Colin McEllin both started their careers on-site. Jen Gavin joined as the accountant, bringing the financial discipline that helped shape a well-run, sustainable business.
When the three of them completed the management buyout in November 2019, they were not outsiders taking over a company. They were the people who had earned it.
Four months later, the world shut down
Rather than wait it out, the team identified what others missed. Empty schools and quiet public buildings created rare, uninterrupted access for complex restoration work. Clan used that window to deepen its heritage and conservation portfolio.
A portfolio built on landmark structures
Clan’s project history now includes the Britannia Pavilion at the Royal Albert Dock, Grade I listed. Toxteth Reservoir, Grade II listed. And No. 7 Bottle Shop at Cannington Shaw in St Helens — a Category A Heritage at Risk site at the time works began, which has since been regraded to Category E. That project drew BBC coverage and a site visit from the Liverpool City Region Mayor.
