OUR SERVICE

Heritage & Conservation

Liverpool’s skyline carries centuries of history, and keeping it standing takes more than general contracting — it takes an understanding of how historic fabric behaves, and the patience to work within it. At Clan Contracting, heritage and conservation work sits at the core of what we do.

Featured Heritage Projects

  • Britannia Pavilion(Grade I listed, Royal Albert Dock) — Heritage brickwork repairs and repointing using reclaimed bricks matched to the original Victorian size and colour, delivered on a live, high-footfall site
  • Toxteth Reservoir(Grade II listed) — Cut through a 3-metre-thick Victorian masonry wall to form a new access opening, with a bespoke structural lintel protecting the surrounding fabric
  • No. 7 Bottle Shop(Grade II listed Scheduled Monument, St Helens) — Stabilisation works that supported a downgrade in Historic England’s Heritage at Risk rating, with apprentice training in traditional techniques

Our Conservation Principles

  • Compatible materials — lime mortars instead of modern cement
  • Reversible interventions — where possible, preserving future options
  • Respectful detailing — matching the building’s original character
  • Material preservation — cast iron treated and saved rather than replaced
  • Sequenced works — keeping tenants, visitors or the public using the building throughout

Who We Work With

  • Heritage bodies
  • Preservation trusts
  • Local authorities

We understand the reporting and consultation that listed and scheduled structures require.

If you’re responsible for a listed building, scheduled monument, or heritage asset in Liverpool or the wider North West, our team can guide you from survey through to completed conservation works — protecting what makes the building worth protecting.
