About the Project

Concrete repairs and structural strengthening were completed at Kirkby’s Multi-Storey Car Park by Clan Contracting, following the identification of widespread cracking, spalling, and reinforcement corrosion across a large area.

A targeted repair strategy was developed using non-destructive testing to pinpoint critical zones, reduce unnecessary breakout, and deliver durable repairs suitable for a high-load parking environment.

Scope of Structural Works

  • Condition assessment using Ferroscan (NDT) to locate reinforcement and verify cover
  • Targeted breakout to expose defective areas and confirm the extent of reinforcement corrosion
  • Crack repair strategy selected to accommodate movement and reduce the risk of re-cracking
  • Steel preparation: rust removal and corrosion mitigation
  • Anti-corrosion priming using Sika MonoTop 610 (zinc-rich primer)
  • Concrete reinstatement using Sika MonoTop 615 high-performance repair mortar
  • Structural strengthening with 1,500+ linear metres of Sika carbon fibre plates to support vehicle loads without adding significant weight
